Catheter Care Course

Our catheter care course is aimed at people working in health and care settings. The course provides staff members with the knowledge and understanding on performing safe changing and emptying of catheter bags.

At First Medical Training we keep a keen focus on infection control and look at the risks of infection when dealing with catheters. We also support staff to be mindful of privacy, dignity, and respect, through using person-centred care when dealing with catheters which can be a sensitive subject for some.

Catheter Care Course content:

  • What is catheterisation?
  • The purpose of urinary catheterisation
  • Causes and Types of incontinence
  • Risks involved with catheterisation
  • Types of catheters
  • Insertion of catheters

The course is delivered in 2 hours and candidates must demonstrate a willingness to learn along with the interaction of group activities. The training venue should be quiet and undisturbed. Staff should not be expected to be on duty Staff attending should remain for the entire length of the session.
