This course teaches dental professionals how to perform hand hygiene correctly and comply with practice policies and applicable regulations.
Overview
Effective hand hygiene is the single most important action in preventing cross-infection. This course provides dental professionals with the essential knowledge to perform hand hygiene correctly and comply with all relevant UK legislation and guidance. It covers the why, when, and how of hand hygiene in a clinical dental setting, empowering your team to protect patients and themselves.
Assessment & Certification
A pass mark of 80% is required. If you do not pass on the first attempt, you can review the content and retake the assessment. Upon successful completion, a downloadable certificate will be available for your CPD records.

This course will teach learners how to perform hand hygiene correctly and comply with the associated legislation and best practice guidelines.
Learning Objectives
On completion of this course, learners will be able to:
- Describe the correct steps for a clinical hand wash.
- Describe the correct technique for using an alcohol-based hand rub.
- Explain the requirements for nail and skin care.
- Identify the circumstances when hand hygiene is required, including the '5 moments for hand hygiene'.
Learning Outcomes
Upon completion, learners will understand the different types of hand hygiene, master the techniques for clinical hand washing and rubbing, and know when to perform them.
